The PhillipinesFor a long time, I have resisted the lure of the Philippines. The country is extremely unstable, and certainly not a place where you would prefer to be remotely located on your own island. There is a lot of guerilla activity. But the islands themselves are beautiful and plentiful. As prices continue to rise in Honduras and the rest of the Caribbean while listings grow scarce, I think that the Philippines is one of the few remaining places to buy attractive islands on the cheap. Thus I'll show you some of the best, but with this warning: they're risky.

Resort in Palawan
Here's one of those bargains that I was talking about. This 36 acre island in Palawan Province has a 10-cottage resort on it. It has been featured in Conde Nast, and it really is quite beautiful. All this for $550,000.
![]() $80,000 Island Obviously, the chief allure of this island is its price. But it also has two beaches and almost 20 acres, including a small hill. Unfortunately, much of the island is occupied by mangroves, and it is very close to an airport (both an advantage and a disruption). But anything at this price is worth a look.
A Mysterious Landscape
There's a nice house here, but the real kicker for this island is the scenery, which is nothing short of magical. The region is full of romantically craggy islands sprinkled through blue water. A larger island at 85 acres, with a proportionately larger price: $800,000.

![]() Undeveloped Paradise There's nothing but palms sand, and wind on this large island in the remote Lincapan area. It has over a hundred acres spread across hilly terrain, in a really beautiful setting. $550,000. Find out more about these islands and others in the Philippines HERE
